burning (if)

Summer is coming and I've been thinking about summery/beachy themed things.

spooky - "I will not harm others" (IF)

I'm a big fan of Asian horror movies, particularly Thai, Korean and Japanese. So for me a sinister kid epitomizes spooky. I really had fun doing this piece and it was a learning process as usually I go for a more stylised, less realistic look. The hair was really fun to do.

handmade toys

I enjoy designing and making toys. Sometimes it's just nice to depart from 2D images and create something tactile that you can hold in your hand!
The little platypus on the left was crocheted, felted and hand stitched. The body is a tetrahedron.

This flat doll was appliqued and embroidered by hand.

In the next couple of months I am going to design and make some marionettes - those puppets that you pull the string to move the limbs. I just need to come up with an idea for good set of characters.
Cheers!

transportation - (by sugar glider)

This week's posting for Illustration Friday. The little boy is being transported in his sleep by magical sugar gliders.
Above is a photo of a sugar glider in flight - which is the animal in the illustration above. These spunky little guys look a bit like squirrels but they are marsupials (like kangaroos and koalas). They glide by stretching out there bodies to help them float from tree-top to tree-top. Quite the little acrobats.
Cheers!

beneath the paddlepool

This is from a picturebook that I have been working on. In case you are wondering, the animal whose head is beneath, is a malay tapir. I look forward to contributing to Illustration Friday more regularly now that I have set up a blog.
